Offensive Advertising

Just heard possibly the most offensive advertising I've ever heard. I was watching UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), which features mixed martial arts bouts. It's a great mixture of thai kickboxing, jujitsu, boxing, wrestling and other martial arts.

But it's sponsored from time to time by Badger John's Hunting Stuff. And their advertising slogan on the programme is "Badger John's - because sometimes you just have to kill something".

No. I. Don't.

Hunting adverts during a super-macho fighting game? They're certainly playing to their audience.

Yes, it's offensive, but I'd like to see a similar tack being used in other product advertising.

Trojan - because sometimes you just have to screw something.

Strongbow - because sometimes you just have to vomit something.

And for those OCD kids among you:

Domestos - because sometimes you just have to clean something.

Maybe I should satisfy the urge to kill something by paying Badger John himself a visit.

Uhm what exactly is offensive about that?

It just made me feel really uncomfortable, the whole 'sometimes you just have to kill something'.

Perhaps it was making light of bloodlust. Perhaps it was removing any sense of responsibility or making it absolutely fine to kill things, because hey, sometimes you just have to. It's in my nature, it's not my fault.

Perhaps it was just the sheer destructive nihilism of it. It made me think of people that would just shoot something for the hell of it, just because it was there and they could.

I dunno. I can't put my finger on why I found it so offensive. I just did.

Uhm yes sometimes it just don't smell right. Personally I'm a live and let live person hence I could not see it as offensive. Thats not to say I can't be offended, but then I did not see the wrestling and have only looked at there website.
But then again sometimes you just have to kill something.
